How Is Arlo Pro 2 Different From Its Predecessor?

With the launch of Arlo Pro 2, people want to know how this new security camera performs. Let?s find out the differences between Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 camera to know how it can benefit you.

The new version of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras offers many new features, such as a higher image resolution, improved motion detection and more flexible installation options so that you no longer run out of battery! In short, full of pretty new features that will be presented in detail in this post.

General characteristics of the Arlo Pro 2

If the Arlo Pro 2 cameras have not changed a hair (in appearance) with the previous version, it turns out that the new features are present in terms of performance. Here are the main features of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras:

  • Full HD 1080p resolution
  • Better motion detection
  • Save videos before the event (3sec)
  • The power supply in addition to its 2440mAh rechargeable battery

The little extras of the Arlo Pro 2

Here are some pretty cool new features:

  • The camera with the new version can work wirelessly, like the old versions. But, with the wired connection, quite interesting functionalities arrive. If the Arlo Pro 2 is plugged into a power cable only, motion detection provides greater range. Motion analysis is also more accurate than infrared motion detection than what the camera can offer when operating on battery.
  • The movement area function also appears. But again, this is only available when the camera is plugged into a cable. You are therefore warned of the movement only in defined areas. A ?backspace? buffer also allows video data to be recorded three seconds before the activity that triggered motion detection. More specifically, the new motion zone functionality helps to refine the accuracy of detection alerts. Three zones can be configured per camera. You will be notified only about activity in these areas specifically. Again, to have this functionality, the camera must be connected electrically and not on battery.
  • For outdoor use, Netgear offers a solar panel that can fully charge the battery of an Arlo Pro camera. This is practical, especially if you do not have an electrical connection device where you place the Arlo Pro 2.

What does not change from previous models?

Netgear offers great improvements with its Arlo Pro 2 cameras, Netgear remains true to itself while obviously keeping what made (and continues to make) the success of Arlo cameras. Obviously, we find the wireless functionality (Wi-Fi and battery), with an identical size between the latest model and the Arlo Pro cameras. But that’s not all. Here are the other features found for all Arlo versions of Netgear:

  • Support for IFTTT, Samsung SmartThings, and Amazon Alexa. But still no features or compatibility with HomeKit.
  • Several starter kits are available (2, 3 or 4 cameras included). Cameras can be purchased separately.
  • When you purchase an Arlo camera pack, Netgear always offers a free basic subscription to back up images. So, you have seven days of storage space for up to five cameras. If you want more features, you can take a paid subscription.

Configuration and use of the Arlo Pro 2

To install the Arlo Pro 2 cameras, nothing changes with the approach of the previous models. Just connect the base station to the internet box, connect it electrically, then synchronize the cameras successively. The cameras can be placed anywhere (table, cabinet, wall, ceiling using the various supports that can be found).

If the resolution of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras has been improved from the Pro 2, it turns out that some problems remain. Certainly, by day, the images are clear, even when zooming in on the image. But, where the most difficult problem remains to be corrected is during night vision. In this configuration, the same problem appears as in the case of Arlo Pro cameras. In fact, to have a usable image, you should know that the night vision distance limit of the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 cameras is only 3 or 4m. Beyond that, you don’t see much and the image is not clear.

To finish on Arlo Pro 2

If the difference between the Arlo and Arlo Pro cameras were significant, the difference between Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 is less with the only significant difference in the video quality, i.e., 1080p in Arlo Pro 2 instead of 720p video recording in the previous edition of Arlo.
